Can You Use The Silk’n SensEpil While Pregnant?

We recently got the following question by email and wanted to address it in a very short and precise manner… The question was based around whether or not you could use the Silk’n SensEpil while pregnant.

I am 26 old woman married.. i have used silkn for four times and i can say that i am getting results but i want to continue using it for about 2 years as recommended.. the problem is that i am thinking to have a baby but in the instructions they said not to be used by pregnant women. i wonder why because all articles on the internet say that the light wont go deeper than the hair follicles and there is no risks on the fetus.. so i’m confused i want to get pregnant soon also i do not want to stop my sessions now.. by the way i have pale skin and dark body hair and i am using silk’n for all my body except my face and neck.. hope to send me details for my question..
thanks

The quick and easy answer to this question is NO! The Silk’n website very clearly states the following:

Certain conditions may prevent the use of Silk’n SensEpil temporarily.  DO NOT USE Silk’n SensEpil if any of the following currently apply to you:

  • If you are pregnant or nursing (lactating).

We are not sure of the reason why and it may be best to contact Silk’n for an explanation but we are sticking with the recommendation of not using the SensEpil while pregnant. After all you’ve had hair in unwanted areas for your whole lives can’t you just deal with it for another 9 months for the sake of your baby???

I can tell you from my research that using IPL devices during pregnancy has not so much to do with being harmful but with it being ineffective because of the hormones. Therefore, it is not recommended to individuals that are not pregnant but are on hormone based treatments.
This is all because the light affects melanine, the hair pigment, practically killing it but that doesn’t mean tha hair doesn’t grow back, but it does make it barely noticeable, like facial hair for most women, you can’t really see it becauseit’s small and light. But the hormones make it grow back, so that makes the treatment ineffective during pregnancy.
For example, we all know kids don’t really have body hair until puberty. And that’s when the hormones kick in and make the hair grow, thicken and darken. The same principle is applied to pregnant women and people who take certain hormones.
So even if you had the whole treatment and got rid of unwanted hair with IPL, if you get pregnant or use hormones, there is still a chance it will grow back and you will have to redo the whole process.
THIS IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL OPINION! It is just the explanation I myself have searched for a long time and found.
